Martinez-Williams Fight

SERGIO MARTINEZ KO'S PAUL WILLIAMS IN 2ND ROUND

November 21, 2010
Dyke L. Marler
Atlantic City, NJ

Martinez got there first. With both fighters throwing hooks so wide they looked like something from the undercard of a local MMA event, Martinez caught Paul Williams with his right hand at his side and KOd him on his feet. At 1:10 of the second round, Williams' face was the first thing to hit the canvas. Damn, I had just gotten ready to rumble.

Billed as the fight of the year after Paul Williams narrowly won a split decision in their previous fight, Martinez came out determined. On his way back to Williams, he beat Kermit Cintron and outclassed Kelly Pavlik-which is not easy to do-then, served Paul The Punisher Williams with the first stoppage, and second loss, of his career.

Post fight, Martinez entertained the idea of fighting Manny Pacquiao in a catch-weight bout but seemed a little taken aback at the idea.

Do you think he knows he's not in Manny's class at any weight? I suspect he does and the startling realization of that fact showed on his face in the moment he was asked the question.
